Leading edge system for the evaluation of the paper quality and for the diagnosis of problems related to production :
The SIRPOTM Test Bench (Système d’Inspection de Rouleaux de Papiers par Ordinateur meaning Computerized Paper Roll Inspection System).

"Scan" Mode : The scanning head scans the sheet every 20 seconds which allows to "map" the paper roll. This operation mode reveals both the cross-machine direction and the machine direction variations.

"Single Point" Mode : The scanning head remains stationary during the unwinding of the paper roll. This operation mode is particularly useful to check the machine direction variations.

The SIRPOTM Test Bench sensors can measure seven paper properties:

  • The Basis Weight
  • The Moisture Content
  • The Caliper
  • The Opacity
  • The Brightness
  • The Formation
  • The Ash Content

  • Inspect and diagnose repetitive problems which occur at a specific position of the paper machine (Spectral Analysis with FFT Software.
  • Check the mill system sensors by comparison with the measurements of the SIRPOTM Test Bench.
  • Measure a paper property which is not normally measured by the mill system sensors.
  • Check the cross machine direction actuators by precis profile measurements in several positions.
  • Validate the paper properties measured by the mill in the context of a total quality policy («Quality Audit»).
  • Serve as a source of objective information to solve disputes between paper producers and users.
  • Serve as a training support for the measurement, the calibration and interpretation of several factors influencing paper quality.
